French Double bass 3/4 size, fully carved
This exceptional 3/4 size French double bass boasts an impressive pedigree, bearing the label "Amati Mangenot, Bordeaux circa 1900 or 1908." The instrument's provenance points to and could be attributed to the renowned Mangenot family of luthiers, who carried on the Amati tradition in Bordeaux during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
While the bass's original construction is consistent with the Mangenot workshop, the distinctive scroll has been skillfully grafted onto the existing neck, lending the instrument an even more striking visual appeal. Interestingly, the scroll's design shares similarities with the work of the esteemed luthier Pillement.
In spite of its complex history, this 3/4 size French double bass remains in fantastic condition, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The bass produces a rich, mature tone with remarkable depth and resonance, making it an ideal choice for orchestral and ensemble performances.
Priced at $35,000, this rare and valuable 3/4 size French double bass represents a unique opportunity for discerning musicians and collectors to acquire a piece of luthier history.
